The Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary, originally protected in 1924, is Alberta's first and oldest Federal Migratory Bird Sanctuary. Explore the 300 acres and five kilometres of walking trails. The Sanctuary's forests, grassland, and wetlands are home to dozens of waterfowl and songbird species, deer and moose, foxes, and coyotes. It is also the "backyard" for the Kerry Wood Nature Centre, Central Alberta's home for natural history and environmental education. As we head into winter, drop by the Nature Centre to rent snowshoes and explore this remarkable space as it slumbers under a blanket of snow.
