Portage College Museum of Aboriginal Peoples' Art & Artifacts

Portage College’s Museum of Aboriginal Peoples’ Art & Artifacts is home to the world’s only permanent collection of artworks by the Professional Native Indian Artists Incorporated, commonly known as the Indian Group of Seven. The museum showcases an inspiring mix of historic and contemporary works, including never-before-seen pieces by internationally recognized artists such as Alex Janvier, Joseph Sanchez, Jane Ash Poitras, and Jason Carter, among many others. Exhibits celebrate First Nations, Métis, and Inuit culture, craftsmanship, and history, offering insight into traditional art forms like hide tanning, beading, and quilling. Located on Portage College’s Lac La Biche campus, the museum welcomes visitors to explore through self-guided tours or to call ahead to arrange guided experiences. Unique workshops and demonstrations are available by request, and guests can purchase one-of-a-kind, authentic works from the gallery store.
