Ptarmigan Cirque Trail

Loading...

For the most current information on trail closures and advisories, please visit the Alberta Parks website. The Highwood Pass road, which provides access to this trail, is closed every year from December 1 to June 14, making the trail inaccessible during those months. This is a moderately difficult hike, mostly thanks to the start of the trail, which is steep and has sections with loose gravel. However, the payoffs are well worth the challenge. This trail ultimately brings you to the Ptarmigan Cirque, an alpine meadow with 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains. Along the way, the trail passes numerous waterfalls and boulders covered in colourful lichen. You’ll find the trailhead for this memorable hike at the Highwood Meadows Day Use Area. Distance: 4.5 km / 2.8 mi / Loop Elevation: 210 m / 700 ft
