Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village

Step back in time at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, where costumed interpreters bring history to life by sharing stories of early Ukrainian settlers in east-central Alberta from 1892 to 1930. As you explore this open-air museum, you can interact with the interpreters, ask questions, and learn how Ukrainian immigration helped shape Alberta’s cultural identity and heritage. Explore over 35 restored buildings, including Ukrainian farmhouses, schoolhouses, a blacksmith shop, grain elevator, train station, and stunning Byzantine Rite churches. Highlights include the traditional sod house, a common first home for settlers. The museum is open throughout the summer and offers hands-on events and workshops that showcase Alberta’s agricultural history, from grain elevators to traditional farming practices. Wrap up your visit with authentic Ukrainian food, including Alberta’s beloved pyrohy (perogies), served by the Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society.
